Lake Cities welcome rain, but lake levels still dangerous

Some much-needed rain finally came to the Lake Cities, but water levels remain low days after.
Last week’s thunderstorms were well-received by residents in the Lake Cities who have, once again, been in the midst of a dangerous drought.
The Lewisville Lake Corps of Engineers reported that on Wednesday, Jan. 25, the lake and surrounding areas got a refreshing 3.84 inches of rain after the most the area had seen in the past month was a three-day stretch of a combined 1.71 inches on Jan. 9, 10 and 11.

County awaits I-35E funding numbers

As the expansion of I-35E draws near, Denton County representatives have continued to request project funding from the Texas Department of Transportation. According to TxDOT officials, the amount of money available for the project will be revealed in the coming weeks.
“This is a priority project for many – not only in the county, but in the region, and of course, at the state level,” said TxDOT representative Cynthia Northrop White.
“Currently, all partners are working to see if any additional funds can be identified for the project, including TxDOT, as quickly as possible. “We will share that information as soon as it is available, and we are hoping it will be in February or March.”

LD council welcomes Bobbie Mitchell

Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell, whose precinct was recently rezoned to include Lake Dallas and Hickory Creek, was welcomed by the Lake Dallas City Council on Thursday, Jan. 26 for a small ceremony and the ensuing council meeting.
There was cake, too. And it was white cake, which just happens to be Mitchell’s favorite.
“When I saw the cake when I walked in, I said to myself, ‘please, let that be a chocolate cake!’ I knew if it was a white cake I was going to eat a lot of it,” she laughed.

Superintendant receives new deal

The Lake Dallas Independent School District made sure last week that their Superintendant of the Year candidate wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon.
LDISD school board members recently approved the lengthening of Superintendent Gayle Stinson’s five-year contract for an additional year during a board meeting. Stinson’s new contract increases her plus-$157,000 salary by two percent, or more than $3,100.
For LDISD, it’s money well-spent.
