Audit presented
to Hickory Creek
Carl Deaton, a representative
of the company Hankins,
Eastup, Deaton, Tonn and
Seay, gave a report to Hickory
Creek council members on
Tuesday, Jan. 17 on the 2010-
2011 Fiscal Year Audit.
The 52-page, highly indepth
report focuses on everything
from the town budget to
citizen comments to miscellanious
expenses.
The document also discusses
managment analysis
within the town, reconciliation
of government funds, the
town’s net assets and other financial
statements.
Highway guideline placed on hold
Last week, county officials
presented guidelines they
wanted met within the new
construction and expansion of
I-35E to the Regional Transportation
Council. For now,
some of those guidelines will
be put on hold, according to
RTC officials.
The biggest of those requests
to be put on hold was
the county’s plea to include a
“free lane” for every “managed
lane” when constructing
the new highway.
Within that guideline was
the county’s request that any
managed toll-lane revenue
should go toward the whole
corridor. Then, once the corridor
is complete, the revenue
should stay in the county of
origin in order for Denton and
Dallas counties to retain revenue
from their respective
pieces. This was a topic of
discussion late in 2011, when
county officials said they
wanted at least one free lane
for every managed toll lane.
Burgess makes Lake Cities Chamber visit
Congressman Michael
Burgess visited the Lake
Cities Chamber of Commerce
last week to speak
about the forecast for Washington
D.C. in 2012 – and,
as he always does, how it affects
residents in Denton
County.
“It’s been a tough year already,”
Burgess said. “I will
point out to you that the year
2010 was a record year for
Congress spending money.
This year, a lot of things we
claim as ‘cuts’ are just altering
the rate of increase without
actually cutting into the
substance of spending. Still,
the level of spending is
down this year as compared
to 2010.”
Hopefully, Burgess said,
things will improve in 2012,
but the Republican representative
said it was too early to
tell right now.
Supreme Court rejects recent district maps
The United States
Supreme Court last Friday,
Jan 13. disapproved the most
recent Texas district maps
drawn by a three-judge panel
in San Antonio, meaning the
legal battle does not yet have
a clear end in sight.
The maps show districts
for the U.S. House of Representatives,
the Texas House of
Representatives and the Texas
Senate, and have been rejected
so far due to allegations
of gerrymandering.
The multiple rejections
caused the original primary
date of March 6 to be delayed
to April 3.
